Super Word asks the class what they thought about what they just witnessed. One student says “I don’t get it, what did she say that was wrong? And why can’t we say those things?” Super Word responds by saying “you are right! We should be able to say those things, and notice differences in a positive manner.By this mother stopping her child from saying a description visible to the eye she is essentially teaching her daughter not to talk about differences amongst people.” By not noticing these differences, this little girl’s mother is advocating for something called colorblind ideology… Do you all know what that means? One student says “does that mean when you can’t tell if something is red or green?” Super Word smiles and says “yeah, it’s kind of like that I guess. But we’re not talking about colors in the rainbow necessarily, we are talking about race. Let’s continue on our journey and this will all become more clear, I promise!”
